Logo

logo

The Design of the logo looks like a Lotus, a symbol of regeneration or a flame. If we see it from a particular angle, it also looks like 'OM', the Supreme Word. The three green bars are symbolic representation of three holy peaks of Trikuta Hills and / or the three 'pindies' in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. The Sun, the giver of Light, Warmth, Time, Direction, Life Force, Energy, Power, Radiance and Enlightenment have been shown surrounded by radiating rays going out to nine planets of the Solar System. All this is , however, left to the imagination of the viewer.

The English version of the motto is "GOD (BHRAMA) IS SCIENCE".  'Bhrama' has been defined as something or someone who nourishes the universe and makes it grow. Science matches the definition wonderfully because science over the years has also done the same. If the world population is any indication, science has done very well indeed. We have not only become the dominant species, we also have grown to an unprecedented numbers.  Moreover, the reach of the modern scientists has spread much beyond the sun and the moon and they are now eyeing the far-reaches of the universe from where even the light takes years and centuries to reach the earth.  Science has given man god-like powers to create and destroy and so for he has used these powers more or less responsibly. Let us hope the good sense continues to prevail and the mankind continues to expand the boundaries of Human Knowledge, so that science and the spirituality ultimately meet in a confluence of superhuman achievements.

About us

smvdu_1

Akin to Brahma (God), who fosters and nurtures the Universe, science over the years has bestowed upon man god like powers, there by making him the dominant species on globe ''Vigyanam Brahma'' or ''God is Science'' is the motto Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University has been established through an act of J&K Legislature as an autonomous, fully residential and highly technical University of excellence with grant and continuing support from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra. Govt., of India has supported our projects and the industry has been closely involved in our R&D activities.

The academic pattern, syllabi and evaluation procedure has been adopted from Indian Institutes of Technology. The University has signed Memorandum of Understanding with various national and international academic, professional and research institutes as well as industry to augment the learning process and to develop research activities. The University has four Colleges consisting of twelve Schools which promote six Undergraduate and nine Postgraduate programmes besides Ph.D. and Post doctoral research fellowship.

The University has the unique distinction of being inaugurated by the President of India in the year 2004 and the first convocation addressed by the Prime Minister of India in the year 2008. This alone speaks of the quality of infrastructure and education at this university.

Being a fully residential university, the campus provides comfortable single, double and triple seated accommodation to all the students (triple seated accommodation is offered to all new admissions at UG level). There are sufficient in-door and out-door sports facilities available. The state of the Art Auditorium with seating capacity for 1000 persons is an excellent center for academic, cultural and social functions. Different Forums and Clubs like Music, Dance, Drama, Quiz, Adventure, Mind-meet forum etc help students to utilize their spare time in a more creative and innovative way. The Officer's Club takes care of the recreation facilities for the faculty and staff. The campus provides an ideal atmosphere for healthy interactions and competition among students and interaction with faculty and professionals from corporate world and other leading institutes. Our students are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities and every effort is made to expose them to the competitive world.

There are qualified faculty members capable of providing all the necessary inputs to more than 1000 students admitted purely on the basis of merit. The admissions are made on AIEEE ranking, CAT/ MAT scores, written tests, interviews and group discussions etc, wherever applicable. Students from twenty different states of the country epitomize a healthy amalgamation of different cultures, religions and languages on the campus. The campus is a classic example of a mini Cultural India with students from even far off places all the way from Kashmir to Kerala. The University is also making an effort to create an extensive university-industry cooperation for economic growth of the area as well as the rest of the country. There are many on going research projects with assistance from many supporting institutions.

The Campus
academic_block_focus

The University is located on 470 acres of land in the lap of Trikuta Hills, the abode of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi at about 2700 feet above the sea level. The pyramidal type architecture merge beautifully with the valley like ambience of the surrounding serene hills.

The surrounding green hills and the perennial stream of Jhajjar in the east minimize the effects of hot and cold winds and produce a pollution free atmosphere on the campus. The average day temperature in summer is around 35 degrees Celsius, 4 degrees Celsius lesser than the surrounding areas of Jammu region and the maximum and minimum temperatures in winter are about 14 and 5 degrees Celsius respectively. A moderately high hill full of trees and plants on the western side of the campus shields the campus, particularly the residential zone, from the long summer afternoons. The slight incline of the campus provides an ideal place for endurance exercises and the spiritual influence of the Divine Mother and Holy Shrine is palpable on the campus, which helps add spiritual dimension to the quality of scientific, technical and management education and life on the campus. An early morning and late evening walk, along the Shrine Axis and other loop roads, surrounded by evenly placed lovely trees and clear sky with sparkling stars, is very refreshing for body, mind and the Soul.

Such proximity of the campus with spiritually and culturally rich pilgrimage centre is an idyllic setting for inspiring the students to reflect on our rich traditional and cultural heritage which needs to go hand in hand with keen scientific temper.
