SMVDU, Katra: Resurgence 2017 - the annual cultural festival of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was today inaugurated by the Governor of J&K State Sh. N. N. Vohra, who emphasizing the need for organizing festivals said that they provide opportunity for the youth of different parts of the country to come together and understand each other. He also highlighted in his address that cultural activities are as important as academic activities. By means of cultural activities students exhibit their artistic talent which is important for life as life goes far beyond academics. The festivals bring the youth together in which students not only compete but also share with each other valuable knowledge and experience. He further expressed concern over the the need to reconnect the youth to our cultural roots, which unfortunately we are forgetting. We need enough opening to know the roots of our culture and its values. It involves you in a process of thought that every culture and religion carries. No religion, no culture ever teach violence or hatred, they all foster brotherhood, love, peace and a sense of living in a society helping each other. Violence, hatred and intolerance are sinful as they reduce the level of humanity. Culture provides opportunity to inculcate understanding for each other, coexistence and social harmony. The Governor also awarded fellowships to the meritorious students of various departments of the University.
