Communication to the outside world is of utmost importance and
that too when you are sitting in a place which is located far
away from the main city. To keep oneself update, various
resources are required and one among them is Internet.
SMVD University, located in the vale of Trikuta Hills, a highly
technical University is having 2 mbps of dedicated leased line
internet connectivity from BSNL. The University has a
full-fledged network center developed on Linux and Microsoft
servers. This centre serves as the control point for the
Internet facility available in the University. The Network
Centre covers all departments, hostels, administrative offices,
hospital, guest houses, and is likely to
provide these services to faculty residences as well. It
has been built using Cisco switches. Internet services are
provided through an External router, Cisco PIX firewall, and 2
Mbps Internet connections. The network centre has also been
established to accommodate all the servers being used in the
university for various purposes. The centre is equipped with IBM
and sun servers running latest software like Ms Windows 2003 and
Red Hat Linux. All Schools and Colleges in the University are
directly controlled by the Centre. Network Centre provides
unlimited usage of Internet facility to entire students and
faculty through a 2 Mbps leased line connectivity with BSNL.
Students, Research scholars and Project staff can access
Internet through any PC connected to LAN in any
Department/Centre. The University provided modern technological
services like e-mail, ftp, centralized printing, web,
application services, library software to its faculty, staff and
students. All faculty members are provided computers in their
office cabins which are connected to high speed servers and the
LAN. The entire campus would be linked via an optical fiber
network. Network connectivity shall also be provided to the
students in the hostels and faculty quarters through telephone
wire by using DSLAM switch and the students having their own
computers and software shall get round-the-clock access to the
internet from the hostels as well. This would go a long way in
improving the overall quality of our students. Both Cisco pix
firewalls are used as final security. Buildings are connected
via a building switch to the central switch through wired. The
University owns and manages its own network. Edge switches in
each College building provide Fast Ethernet (100Mbs)
connectivity to ports. The current standard for building cabling
is CAT6. This internet and networking facility is being managed
through central core switch Cisco 4507R.
All laboratories have internet connectivity. Our University will
also provide wireless connectivity with seamless roaming
facility so that anyone on campus can have access to internet
without changing any configuration.
There is still a long way to go. Little has been done and we
pledge to make it the best. |
