Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University
has been established as a highly technical and fully
residential university through an act of J&K Legislature
with foundation grant and continuing support from Shri
Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. His Excellency, Governor
of Jammu & Kashmir, Sh.N.N Vohra, is the
Chancellor of the University and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam,
the then President of India inaugurated it in the month
of August 2004. The First convocation of the university
was addressed by Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Dr.
Manmohan Singh on 25th April, 2008.

Under
the leadership of the vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Bansal,
former Professor and Head of Centre for Energy Studies
at IIT Delhi, the university decided to adopt academic
pattern of the IITs for transparency in teaching and
evaluation. The university has grown in stature since
then and three batches of MBA that have graduated.
SMVDU
has four Colleges, representing the faculties of
Engineering, Science, Management and Philosophy Culture
& Languages. This allows the horizontal structure to
have critical expansion thereby making the overall
administration simpler and easier. Each college has
several constituent schools (equivalent to departments)
in specialized area within the college. This set-up
facilitates inter- disciplinary inputs, co-operation and

Research
programmes leading to Ph.D degree are offered by all the
schools.
The campus
of the university is spread over an area of 470 acres
with constructed area including Academic Blocks,
Administrative Blocks, Student Hostels, Faculty & Staff
Residences, covering a total area of about 6, 30,000 ft2.
Buildings for a Central Library, School of Architecture,
Student Hostel, Residential Quarters, Shopping Complex
and a Sports Complex with total area of about 4, 00,000
ft 2 are under construction. A State of Art
Auditorium with a seating capacity of about 1000 has
already been constructed and is in use.
Care has
been taken to provide all basic facilities for a healthy
and comfortable stay and to provide a learning
environment. A 33 KV substation on the campus ensures
almost uninterrupted power supply and a dug well
provides water supply of 50,000 gpd, which is being
augmented to 2, 00,000 gpd by coming summer months.
Medical facilities are available in the campus with an
experienced doctor staying on campus. Lab test
facilities are also available on the campus for routine
tests and ambulance is available in case of emergency
evacuation to nearest hospital in Katra / Jammu.
Bharat
Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) Udhampur, has set up its most
modern digital telephone exchange on the campus along
with mobile tower. High speed 6MBPS
Internet connection on a dedicated leased line to the
university community is also available. The internal telephone network is one of the
most modern Siemens Hipath 4300 series IP ready
communication server with digital and analog
connections.
Basic
student amenities including stationery shop, barber,
tuck shop and other eateries are also available on the
campus.
Shri Mata
Vaishno Devi University has initiated Student
Assistantship Programme (SAP) for professional courses to inculcate work culture
and competitive spirit among the students and also to
implant in them a drive towards excellence.
SMVDU has
designed its courses for scientific, technical and
managerial oriented training with an emphasis on
excellent academics, research and lucrative professional
career for the students and significant contribution
towards the economic growth of our country. It is
therefore essential to have continuous interaction with
the corporate world.
A cell,
named ''Corporate Relations & Scientific Research
Division'' has been created with the objective to
coordinate R&D and consultancy activities and at the
same time to facilitate training and placement for the
students.
The
University has established state of art laboratories in
all academic schools.
Analog and
Digital Electronics Laboratory, Communication
Engineering Laboratory, Microprocessor Lab, Electric
Machine Laboratory, Power electronics Laboratory,
Optical Fibre lab, DSP Application Lab, PCB Fabrication
Lab, Microwave lab and Xilinx Laboratory in
collaboration with Xilinx Inc. USA in the School of
Electronics and Communication Engineering, Linux,
Database, Basic Computation Lab, Project Special Lab and
a general Purpose lab in the School of Computer Science
and Engineering.
Fluid
Mechanics Lab, Fluid Machine Lab, Thermal Engineering
lab, Strength of Material Lab CAD/CAM Lab besides an
advanced workshop in the School of Mechanical
Engineering. Laboratories such as IC Engine Lab, Heat
and Mass Transfer Lab and Dynamics of Machine Lab are in
the stage of development.
In the
field of Biotechnology, laboratories for genetics,
microbiology and Molecular Biology besides a laboratory
for bioinformatics have already been established and
used for teaching & research. Teaching laboratories for
Physics and Chemistry are also established.
All Schools
are equipped with Computer Laboratories specific for
their use.
The
University has signed MOUs with leading National and
International Institutions like IIT Delhi, Indian
Institute of Integrative Medicine Jammu, Aachen
University and Bochum Universities in Germany, Orel
State Technical University in Russia and Kun Shan
University,Taiwan. MOUs have also been signed with State
Forest Research Institute Jammu and Kashmir under
National Bamboo Mission and also with Micro, Small and
Medium Enterprises in Jammu to create Business Skills
amongst students.
The
University Library has already 20,000 books, 1011 CD
ROM's & Audio Cassettes & 87 National & International
Journals are subscribed in the Library. It has access to
various online databases & electronic Journals. Shri
Mata Vaishno Devi University Library is also a member of
INDEST & has access to Springer Link, IEL online, ACM,
ABI, Math Science Net & ASME publications.
The subject
coverage is Management, Engineering, Science,
Philosophy, Culture, English Language, French Language &
Literature. The entire Library collection is fully
indexed & the catalogue is computerized. The Library
also provides current Awareness service & selective
Dissemination of Information Services.
SMVD
University provides an opportunity to all the students
for extra - curricular pursuits. These activities
include recreational as well as creative activities like
sports, publications, societal welfare and others.
Various clubs like music, dance, drama, quiz and
interactions have been created for an all round
development.
All India Engineering
Entrance Examination (AIEEE):
Admission
to Undergraduate Programmes are made through the All
India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). Details
about the AIEEE can be obtained from the office of I/c
Admissions (Undergraduate) or from the websites (www.aieee.nic.in,
www.smvdu.ac.in).
Admissions are made through a centralized counseling
conducted by the Central Counseling Board (CCB)
constituted each year by MHRD for the purpose. On
successful completion of the central counseling and in
the event of some seats remaining vacant, the same shall
be filled through SMVDU direct counseling from the forms
received against the national level advertisement issued
by the university for the purpose. The direct counseling
shall also be conducted on the basis of AIEEE All India
Rank (AIR) only. No other criteria shall be followed for
the vacant seats.

Eligibility Conditions
For
B. Tech: An applicant should have passed 10+2
examination from a recognized board. Candidates
appearing in the qualifying examination can also apply
subject to their passing the qualifying examination
before the admissions are finalized. Admissions shall be
on the basis of merit rank order (AIR) of the AIEEE,
conducted every year by CBSE. Counseling for admissions
to the undergraduate programmes shall be conducted by
the CCB of AIEEE. Candidate must have attained 17 years
of age as on October 1, 2009. No candidates, with less
than 50% marks in aggregate, shall be admitted to the B.
Architecture programme. He / She must have passed an
examination at the end of the new 10+2 scheme of Senior
School Certificate Examination or equivalent with
Mathematics as subjects of examination at the 10+2
level.
For B.Arch:
Candidates applying
for B. Arch Programme should satisfy the eligibility
criteria as per Council of Architecture guidelines.
Candidate must have attained 17 years of age as on
October 1, 2009.

Note : Candidates are

Cancellation of admission
shall be governed by the following rules and guidelines:
a)
In case a student opts for
withdrawal of admission before commencement of the class
work full semester tuition fee shall be refunded.
b)
In case a student opts for
withdrawal of admission within 15 days of commencement
of the class work as per the academic calendar of the
university 75% of the semester tuition fee shall be refunded.
c)
In case a student opts for
withdrawal of admission within 30 days of commencement
of the class work as per the academic calendar of the
university 50% of the semester tuition fee shall be refunded.
d)
In case a student opts for
withdrawal of admission beyond 30 days of commencement
of the class work as per the academic calendar of the
university tuition fee for the semester shall be nonrefundable.
e)
No refund (except the security
deposit) can be claimed incase of the withdrawal after 3 months from date of admission of the
student.
1. Full security deposit shall
be refunded irrespective of time of withdrawal.
2.
Fee under the heads 1.1,
1.2, 1.3 & 2 as given in Fee Structure in Table I
shall be refunded partially or fully depending upon the
duration of stay (not more than 3 months from the date
of admission) on the campus which shall be determined on
case to case basis as per the rules of the University.
3. Fee under head (counseling
charges Rs. 5,000/-) shall be non-refundable.
4.
Hostel rent is refundable
as per actual stay of the student.
5.
University shall release the
amount of refund within a maximum period of three months
from the date a student applies for the same.
Refund shall not be treated
as a matter of right however the same shall be done only
after the student applies for the same on a prescribed
format.
Mode of Payment
At the time of admission
two separate Demand Drafts shall have to be deposited in
SMVD University drawn in favour of, ''REGISTRAR, SMVDU''
payable at Jammu. Incase the DD is prepared from any
branch of J&K bank then it should be made payable at JK
Bank, SMVDU branch. The details of the fees are
indicated above under the fee structure.
Students can
also transfer the requisite amount of fee online
directly from their respective cities to Shri Mata
Vaishno Devi University's account no's 0477040100000353
for admission fee and 0477040100001302 for Mess charges
in the Jammu and Kashmir Bank Ltd., SMVDU Branch from
any branch of Jammu & Kashmir Bank located anywhere in
the country. The IFS code for the online transfer of
fees from any other bank to J&K Bank, SMVDU Branch is
JAKA0SMVDUN. Incase of online transfer students must
retain the copy of counterfoil and produce the same for
verification at the time of reporting for admission in
SMVDU.
