Adjunct Professor H. N. Ramaswamy from University of Mysore, Mysore, visited Department of Mathematics of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and delivered a series of lectures in Algebra during 2nd to 11th March 2017. On the first day of the lecture series Dr A. K. Das, Head, Department of Mathematics introduced Prof. Ramaswamy to the students, Research Scholars and faculty members of the Department. Prof V. K. Bhat, Dr. A. K. Sharma, Dr. K. Raj, Dr. S. Bhougal, Dr. S. Singh and Dr. S. Sharma were present during the introduction. Professor. Ramaswamy started his lecture by introducing basic notions of Algebra and in the subsequent lectures he covered advanced topics which include Group Theory, Ring Theory and Field Theory. The entire lecture series was attended by M.Sc.(Maths.) students and research scholars. Apart from taking classes, Prof. Ramaswamy spent time in the Department and interacted with research scholars and faculty members of the Department. During this visit, Prof. Ramaswamy also delivered an Invited talk in the “Two- Day National Conference on Topology, Analysis, Algebra and Their Applications” organized by the Department of Mathematics. On the last day of the lecture series, Dr. A. K. Das thanked Prof. Ramaswamy for his visit to the Department and requested him to visit again in the next semester.
