Chancellor Inaugurates DBT Funded Bio-Informatics Facility at
SMVDU
The Bio-Informatics facility in
the school of Biotechnology, inaugurated by SHRI N.N. VOHRA,
IAS His Excellency, The Governor of J&K & Chancellor, SMVD
University October 8, 2008. The Bio-Informatics facility in the
school of Biotechnology has been created with the help
of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India with the initial
seed money of Rs. 20.00 lacs for the purchase of computer
hardware, software and other infrastructures required for the
setting up of this facility in this university.
Workshops
-
A Day-long workshop on
National Bamboo Mission (8th Dec.2008) organized by the
School of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University
in collaboration with the State Forest Research institution
Jammu, was held here at university campus. The Vice
Chancellor, SMVDU Professor N.K.Bansal, inaugurated the
workshop while Principal Secretary Agriculture Production
Mrs. Sonali Kumar presided over it.

Workshop on "Trends in
Bioinformatics" (16-19 March, 2009) has been organized
jointly by Bioinformatics Centre, School of Biotechnology,
SMVD University in collaboration with Bioinformatics Centre,
School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu and has been
sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of
India.
MOU
Signed with Prathista Industries Pvt. Ltd.1

The MOU between Laval
University SMVDU Prathista Industries aims at developing
teaching and research resources as well as the promotion of
International collaboration on the basis of equality and
mutual assistance. Amongst its mode of cooperation the
agreement includes the exchange of Professors, students,
joint research activities, pedagogical and scientific
documents and joint programmes and publication After signing
the MOU, Prof. Bansal, a renowned Energy Scientist himself
commented that the motto of collaboration is to use research
for marketable technology for clean environment. He
emphasized that since the University has already signed many
MOU's with National and International Institutions /
Industries but this MOU will provide another significant
leap to the research activities of SMVD University.

Mr. Sai Ram, CEO and MD
Prathista Industries Ltd. shared his plan of setting up a
manufacturing unit of Prathista Industries in J&K. Moreover,
he said that MOU will benefit the students immensely by
their training and recruitment at Prathista Industries

Prof. V.Verma, Dean College
of Sciences said that this MOU will give act as a bridge
between the academia and Industry as it is imperative for
the students of Industrial Bio Technology to get a first
hand industrial exposure.
MOU Signed with Thapar University, Patiala

In its endeavour to strive
for ex- Excellence, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University
(SMVDU), Katra has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU)
with Thapar University, Patiala (TU) on Apr 28, 2009. In an
official handout issued here today, it has been stated that
the MOU was signed in the presence of Vice Chancellor SMVDU
Prof. N.K. Bansal and Dean College of Sciences Prof. V,
Verma, Director Prof. Abhijit Mukherjee and Prof. R,K.
Sharma, Dean Academic academic affairs represented Thapar
University, Patiala.

University handout
maintains that the MoU would provide an impetus to
Research and Quality Education in the evolving field of
Biotechnology and Biosciences. This MoU, a missions in M.Sc.
(Biotechnology) course at SMVDU will be made on the basis of
the rank order merit obtained by The students the
Competitive Exam to be conducted by Thapar University at New
Delhi, and Patiala on June 6, 2009.

Interested students shall,
however, apply: for the above, course In SMVDU against
advertisement to be released shortly. The forms for the
above competitive exam of TU will be available at Axis Bank
Bahu Plaza Gandhi Nagar , Jammu. This MoU Would facilitate
joint research in the field of Biotechnology besides
facilitating faculty exchange.
Guest Lectures

Prof. Subash Chand and Mr.
Mukesh Goel from IIT, Delhi had been invited to deliver
series of lectures in the field of 'Down stream process' and
'Chemical Reaction Engineering' as guest faculty from
12.03.2008 to 21.03.2008.

Prof. Dr. -Ing Karl Strauss
from the University of Dortmund, Germany had been invited to
deliver series of lectures in the field of 'Transport
Process-2' as a Guest Faculty in our School of Biotechnology
from 30th March to 11th April, 2008.

Dr. V.K. Koul, Scientist,
IIIM, Jammu has delivered guest lectures in school of
Biotechnology for IBTstudents for course: 'Bioprocess
Calculations' from 16.09.2007 to 18.11.2007.

Prof. Dr. Ing. Rolf
Wichmann from the University of Dortmund, Germany had been
invited to deliver series of lectures in the field of
'Chemical Engineering' as a Guest Faculty in our School of
Biotechnology from20.08.2007 to 31.08. 2007.
