RESEARCH

  • Energy security
Energy security - The continuous availability of energy in varied forms, in sufficient quantities, and at reasonable prices - is a main concern for a developing country like India with limited energy resources. Energy Security for India will be one of the research areas of the school.

  • Biodiesel production & utilization
Biodiesel is one of the most promising liquid alternative fuels. The main sources for biodiesel can be non-edible oils and different feed stocks obtained from various plant species. There are many species, which bear seeds rich in oil. Of these some promising tree species have been identified. These are jatropha Curcas (Ratan Jyot), Pongamia Pinnata (Karanja), Calophyllum Inophyllum (Nagchampa or polanga), Mahua & Caster Seemaruba etc. Out of these, jatropha Curcas are largely (more than one lakh plants) available in our university premises. These Jatropha seeds will be processed to produce biodiesel. Biodiesel thus produced will be tested for its potential utilization in existing IC engines for various applications.

  • In addition to above, research will be also be conducted on other energy related fields like energy efficiency in buildings and non-conventional energy sources like solar energy and wind mills.

Research Facilities
In order to conduct research work in the above mentioned areas and also to carry out M. Tech. research projects in near future, following research facilities will be created:

  • Energy Modeling & Simulation Laboratory.

  • Fuel Testing Laboratory.

  • Engine Performance & Exhaust Emission Testing Laboratory

  • Non-conventional Energy Sources Laboratory.

  • Energy Instrumentation Laboratory.
