07092020 newsDr. Jyoti Sharma, Associate Professor, School of Business, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, J&K conducted sessions on various topics of ‘Human Resource Management & Behaviour’ for Sher-I Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur. These sessions were organized for probationary Dy.SP and PSIs, who were undergoing their one year basic induction course at the Academy. Dr. Sharma has conducted in total 09 live sessions by using advanced pedagogical tools including business games short cases, role plays, etc. The officers were provided insight regarding the various aspects of human behavior at individual as well as group level. With the help of scenario building exercises, officers were sensitized regarding the relevance and significance of understanding of own behavior in order to comprehend the understanding of others’ behavior. Different perspectives of police behavior and personality were also deliberated with the newly inducted officers during the training sessions. The sessions also threw light on some of the perceptual errors narrating that real world may be same for all of us but the perceived world may not be the similar. The sessions also discussed how these perceptual errors can lead to various kinds of consequences especially in case of police officers who are holding front line job profiles. Deliberations regarding the four categories of police behavior including situational, individual, organizational and community were made with the help of short cases. The sessions also highlighted significance of conflict management skills on the part of the police officers and explained how the absence of these skills may aggravate the situations for all the stakeholders.

Mr. Dass achieved this accolade based upon his summer internship. He has been working with the company as a part of the summer internship program of School of Business since six weeks as a Digital Marketing Intern.

Mr. Das was engaged in SEO activities, competitor analysis, brand building exercise and many more. During the summer internship opportunity during the COVI19 period also, the School of Business, SMVDU students got an opportunity to interact with many corporate leaders during the course of Internship that gave them insight on various aspects of management as well as practical exposure.

Mr. Aarsh Das expressed his profound gratitude to Padma Shri Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. D. Ms. Aarti Dhingra, alumnus of School of Business interacted with students of MBA on 27th March, 2018. Ms. Arti Dhingra is presently running her own venture Shape n Smile- The fitness studio in Jammu very successfully and is certified trainer. She was the first woman entrepreneur in Jammu in the field of fitness and health. She shared with students her corporate experiences in Reliance Money and the kind of failures she faced in her life before entering into her own venture. She mentioned that if one wants to taste the fruit of success, one must have knowledge about the relevant field. She mentioned that honesty, self-confidence, knowledge and proper R&D are the primary requirements for starting up of own venture. She emphasized that nothing is impossible, if there is willingness to do something. She gave some tips to the students regarding tackling of stress level in the corporate world. She inspired the students to become a successful entrepreneur and provided insight regarding how to adjust and cherish the moments of life. She also spoke about her fund-raising charity events. She suggested the students to have precision and confidence about the aim of their life.

Ms. Dubey is working under the mentorship of Dr. Supran Kumar Sharma, Faculty, School of Business, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. It is a part of her Dissertation work which every student of MBA, SMVDU, writes during his/her degree program. Ms. Dubey also received campus placement in ICICI Bank with an attractive package.

To take a walk down the corridors of nostalgia, Ms. Shivani Langeh, presently Regional Marketing Expert, Global Sign and alumni of School of Business interacted with MBA students on 8th March, 2018. She shared her experiences about her classroom with MBA students and mentioned that how two years of MBA had changed her. With the help of conduction of small activities relating to SWOT analysis, she provided valuable insights to the students regarding how to overcome their deficiencies and capitalise on strengths. She emphasised that there is no harm to fail as by it, ‘life doesn’t stops’. She gave the example of failure of 96% of start-up in India and told them that how those start-ups were able to deal with their failure in a very fine and cool way. She advised the students to keep distance from negative persons and manage their time effectively as it the golden period of their life on the basis of which they can flourish or sink in future. She told the students to live and peruse their hobbies which will help them to live their personal space. She also mentioned to the students that companies are interested in fresher (new and warm innovative blood) and also discussed with the students some carrier options.

05042017 drSauravDr. Saurabh, Head, School of Business, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, J&K was the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker in the Webinar on Social Entrepreneurship held of 24th June 2020 hosted by Department of Management Sciences, Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology, Othakalmandapam Post, Coimbatore.

Dr. Saurabh, in his lecture, focused on providing valuable information on social entrepreneurship and how it will help our country, state’s and people’s development. He explained how social entrepreneurship is one of the important dimensions which helps to design our country, states’ and people’s development, specifically in the current context. He discussed about Indian design of social entrepreneurship in development discourse specifically in India. With certain examples, he explained the basic prospect of the entrepreneurship culture of a community or social responsibility.

He said that when the world is looking forward for the development of India, which can be a potential base for the hope of economic growth, it is necessary to build in the necessary steps for the integrated growth and development of society. He explained the divine design of social entrepreneurship and said that the concept of social entrepreneurship provides for “udyam with dharma” - dharma is everything with a view of virtue, nurturing, increase prospering, enhancing all living being and securing themselves. His framework of the divine design of social entrepreneurship was well discussed and appreciated by participants during the question and answer session. Coordinator of the session Kanimozhi V. SMVDU Katra: Prof. D. P. Agrawal, former Chairman of Union Public Service Commission and member of Executive Council of SMVDU, yesterday interacted with members of faculty, School of Business. The member of faculty discussed the issues related to quality improvement of MBA program with Prof. Agrawal, who enquired about MBA program’s present status, problems faced and challenges ahead. He suggested increasing the intake of MBA students from 60 to 120. To increase the visibility of the program, conduction of HR Summits, Conclave, MDPs for corporate employees, Seminars and Conferences with more participation from Corporate was suggested. To enhance the employability of MBA students, it was discussed that the students should be prepared as future marketers not salesmen, teaching with cases to prepare them for corporate world, simulations in the class for managing the job stress, association with teachers from IT so as to help the students in using Artificial Intelligence for problem solving and decision making. To attract more students in the program the quality intervention was highlighted. He also stressed upon engagement of students in research and publication that improve skills.

So as to attract quality students and to increase employability of our future managers, there is need of strong and consistent link between academia and industry. They both have to work in synergy for success in management research and creating the best management graduates. Prof. Agrawal was visiting SMVDU in connection to the Academic Audit and giving recommendation for improvement of various departments and programs of the University. Dr. Isha Sharma 2009 batch passout MBA , Mr. Varun, Mr. NItin Pandita and Mr. Romel Dhar 2018 batch passout MBA interacted with students of managements. Dr. Isha is presently working at Jammu University , Mr. Varun is presently working in HDFC AMC, Mr. Romel Dhar in AXIS Bank and Mr. Nitin Pandita is going to join the planning department of J&K bank. They discussed about the opportunities after MBA programme with the students and shared the Mantras for getting the placements through campus. During the interaction they highlighted the various parameters which company look into their future employees. They motivated the students to enhance their communication skills. Dr. Isha also discussed some recent challenges happening in the corporate sector relating to human resource development. She stimulated the students to utilise the golden period of their life i.e. University student life to the maximum extent. Alumni of SoB emphasised on developing the habits of reading on daily basis so that regular upgradation one’s knowledge and skills in order to nurture and develop oneself more can happen. They provided the insight to the students regarding the kind of guidance they received from the University and how it has helped them to face the real life challenges. They appreciated the opportunity and support provided by the University and helping in boarding their outlook.

unnamedDr. Saurabh, Assistant Professor, School of Business, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, attended International Conference on Strategies in Volatile and Uncertain Environment for Emerging Markets, organized by Department of Management, IIT Delhi from 14th -15 July 2017. The conference aimed to encourage discussions about research and strategies for addressing uncertainty and the opportunities created by changes in the emerging markets.

Dr. Saurabh was invited to chair the session on the theme: “Unconventional Strategies for Globally Positioned Cities and Businesses within those Cities: Managing Global Flows of Capital, Knowledge, and Goods”. The presenters were provided critical feedback and comment by the session chair that would provide them insights to improve their paper and research. The feedback of the conference was very encouraging and total 161 presenters participated from India and abroad. The Conference Chairs Prof. Sushil and Prof. Sanjay Dhir, extended thanks for participation and support to the conference.

Ms. Sana Gupta, alumnus of visited the School of Business to share her corporate experiences with students of School of Business. Ms. Sana Gupta 2011-12 batch passout is presently associated with a US-based MNC in London. During her interaction she brought to light the various challenges and practices concerned with starting up of business outside India. She also talked about the cost of setting up a business in India vis-a- vis foreign countries. She talked about her challenges while she was trying to establish herself in foreign land. She also discussed about the relevance of classroom teaching in corporate work life. She told to the students that the basic mantra for survival in corporate world is the innovative ideas. She also emphasised on importance of CV for freshers as it gives the reflection about the person. She concluded her session highlighting the importance of keeping a balance between the professional and personal life especially in case of business women.

Ms. Divyani 2016-17 batch pass out and alumnus of MBA also interacted with MBA students. She is presently working in Mahindra First Choice, Chandigarh. She pointed out that for long term survival in the corporate world, first three months of corporate life are very crucial. With one to one discussion mode, she cleared many doubts of the students regarding selection of specialisation courses in MBA for future. She underlined the facilitating role played by case studies and teaching pedagogy of MBA course at SMVDU to equip the students for future corporate challenges.

05042017 drSauravDr. Saurabh, Assistant Professor, School of Business, SMVD University, Katra presented his paper in the 3rd International Conference on Management and Sustainability in Asia (COMSA), under International Education for Sustainable Development Alliance (INTESDA) was held in Fukuoka, Japan (one of Asia’s greenest and most sustainable cities) on March 26 and March 27, 2017. The International Education for Sustainable Development Alliance (INTESDA), is a diverse community of educators, academics and non-profit professionals founded in 2015, in part, to support the Sustainable Development Global Goals set by the United Nations. It is committed to addressing sustainable development issues through capacity building, advocacy, networking and sharing knowledge. COMSA 2017 in a series of conferences was an international conference aimed at providing a platform for academics, researchers and students to gather in a peaceful to engage learn and share ideas ranging from corporate social responsibility and the triple bottom line to sustainable business practices, economic development and sustainable livelihoods in developing nations. COMSA 2017 was an international, peer-reviewed conference, with reviewers from various countries.

There were total twenty eight presentations (Six virtual, two poster and 20 oral) were made from the scholars and researchers of 12 different countries namely Japan, India, Taiwan, USA, Thailand, Pakistan, Indonesia, Spain, Tanzania, China, and South Korea, under seven sessions. Dr. Saurabh presented his paper on the topic “An EVA® Discourse for Sustained Advantage: Case of Select Indian Firms”. The paper explores the sustenance of select companies in India with a premise that their economic value added has helped them to maintain their competitive advantage. The paper uses content analysis along with case based method to reach to the conclusions. The paper was presented with the support of professional development assistance scheme of SMVDU. Dr. Saurabh thanked the University authorities and management for support through encouraging scheme for learning and sharing knowledge.
