SMVDU Katra, May 2019. The School of Philosophy & Culture (SoPC) of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) organized a Ten-Day FDP-cum-Textual Workshop on Śāṁkara Vedānta (Level-1) from 20th – 30th May 2019. The workshop was funded by Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi. The valedictory session was chaired by the Chief Patron Prof. D. Mukhopadhyay, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SMVDU. The chief guest of the event was Prof. Shiv Nirmohi and Prof. E. Muthusamy, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and officiating Registrar was the guest of honor. The dais was shared by the renowned scholars Prof. V.N. Jha and Prof. Ujjwala Jha, the resource persons of the workshop and Dr. Anil K. Tewari, Head, SoPC. The session began with the floral welcome and felicitation of the guests and was followed by a report on the workshop by Dr. Tewari. In his report, Dr. Tewari highlighted the fact that there were 30 participants from ten different states of India. Prof. Nirmohi in his address spoke about the confluence of culture and philosophy of the people who migrated from various parts of India to different parts of the country. Prof. Jha emphasized the need to develop short-term programs for the first year engineering students to expose them to the vast treasure of traditional Indian wisdom. Most importantly, they should be able to see that various schools of Indian philosophy are different models of understanding human consciousness, which is the most neglected dimension of the technology-centric civilization. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D. Mukhopadhyay, alerted that the ignorance of any sort is harmful for the holistic growth of personality. Therefore the intellectual traditions of India must be part of the curriculum of professional education. The valedictory session ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor, SoPC after the certification distribution and felicitation of the participants.

SMVDU, Katra. May 2019. A TEQIP-III sponsored national workshop on “Scientific Learning with Python” from 25-29 May 2019 began at SoECE, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, with an objective to provide an exposure to the faculty members/research scholars/PG students and working professionals from different institutions, R&D organizations and industries in the field of “Scientific Learning with Python” to enhance their knowledge in the domain. During one week of the workshop many areas will be covered, such as Python Data Type, Operators, Input and Output, Flow Control, Functions, File Handling, etc., along with how to apply python programming in Networking and Communication, Modern Cryptography, Signal & Image Processing, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics. Many resource persons from the reputed institutions, like IIIT Allahabad, NIT Kurukshetra, NIT Hamirpur and Thapar University, Patiala will take the lecture and conduct the hands-on practice for the participants.

One-Day Regional Seminar on ‘Indian Value System: Contemporary Relevance’ was organized by the School of Philosophy & Culture at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, to celebrate ‘Indian Philosopher’s Day 2019’. The program was sponsored by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi. The Indian Philosopher’s Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Adi Shankaracharya on Panchami tithi of Vaishakh Shukla Paksha. The event started with the inaugural session in the the Sanskriti Kaksha, SMVDU. The inaugural session began with lamp-lighting and Sarasvati Vandana by the chief guest Prof. Rajeev Garg, Director, DQA; Prof. Kiran Bakshi, Jammu; Dr. Anil Kumar Tewari, Head, SoPC and Dr. Amitabh Vikram Dwivedi, Head, SoL&L. Dr. Tewari welcomed the guests and Prof. Bakshi delivered the key note address. Dr. Ashoka Kumar Tarai, Assist. Prof., SoPC delivered the vote of thanks. During the technical sessions, chaired by Prof. Bakshi, Dr. Bhupender Heera, Dr. Mahesh Kaul, Ms. Ruby Bharati, Ms. Reena Kumari among others presented their papers on the theme. The event was attended by Dr. Saurabh, Head School of Business, Mr. Anil Bharadwaj, Dr. Rashi Taggar, Dr. Kritti, Dr. Rakesh Thusoo, Dr. Anurag Kumar and Mrs. Isha Malhotra, Mr. Samir Vohra, Mr. Opinder Sharma, some teachers from Higher-Secondary School, Panthal, along with the research scholars, M.A. students and staff members of School of philosophy & Culture as well as the School of Languages and Literature. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates among the participants and an expression of gratitude towards the helping hands of SMVDU and the funding agency, ICPR, New Delhi.

SMVDU Katra, 27th May 2019: The MBA program of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), has been granted an extension of National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi, based upon its performance in the academics, successful placements, grooming of the students, inculcating effective managerial skills, and alike. Dr. Saurabh, Head of School of Business, informs that accreditation of the MBA program is a significant achievement. The school has senior and experienced faculty members who create and deliver the courses in close interaction with the industry requirements. Prof. D. Mukhopadhyay, Dean, Faculty of Management, SMVDU, and present Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, congratulated the School. He emphasized that School of Business is committed to provide value based education and developing managers who have contemporary outlook. He mentioned that the School of Business has been getting good response from all the agencies and industries and is also in top 100 institutions according to NIRF ranking of MHRD. The school has opened is application in MBA program through MAT/ CMAT/ CAT and shall close its applications soon for the session 2019-20.

The School of Philosophy & Culture at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra (Jammu & Kashmir), is organizing ten-day FDP-cum-Textual Workshop on Śāṁkara Vedānta (Level-1) from 20th – 30th May 2019. The program is open for the faculty members of higher education institutions, students and common learners and the last date for the application is 10th May 2019. The text chosen for the study is titled Vedāntasaṅgraha authored by Bellamkonda Ramaraya (1875-1914). Ramaraya is one of the most brilliant expositors of the Advaita tradition from Andhra Pradesh. The ingenuity of the text lies in its comprehensive presentation of the Advaita Philosophy in a lucid Sanskrit. The resource persons of the workshop are Prof. V.N. Jha and Prof. Ujjwala Jha, Former Directors of the Centre of Advanced Study in Sanskrit, University of Pune. Both are learned scholars of Indian philosophy and Sanskrit and are dedicated to spread the message of the Indian intellectual tradition. A two-day Management Development Program on “Efficient Decision Making: Process and Practices” inaugurated at the School of Business, Faculty of Management, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function Prof. E. Muthusamy, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, SMVDU, emphasized on the need for such kind of program for the human resources of the business organization. Dr. R. K. Mishra, Head, School of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU, provided descriptions on the different forms of decision making tools and their role in enhancing the profitability of the organization. While narrating about the vibrancy of the School of Business, Dr. Saurabh, Head, School of Business, SMVDU, gave a brief description regarding the different activities organized by the School in the past. Narrating scenic beauty of the University, Dr. Supran Kr Sharma, Program Coordinator & Assoc. Prof. School of Business welcomed the participants. While introducing the aim of the program, Dr. Sharma highlighted the significance of the theme of the program across all levels in any organization. While Introducing the program, he mentioned about the different sub-themes including techniques for rational decision making, six thinking hats, decision tree, effective decision making, communication strategies for focused decision making effective decision making behavior skills, nose and biases in decision making, etc. scheduled to be conducted in this two-day training program. Two-week Faculty Development Program on “Marketing Research and Business Analytics with Econometric Applications in Business Management” inaugurated at theSchool of Business, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra. During the inaugural address, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) D. Mukhopadhyay, wished for constructive learning and advised for participatory mode of learning for all the participants. On the occasion, Prof. V.K.Bhat, Registrar, SMVDU, provided tips for effective learning in the area of econometric tools. This program has witnessed participation from 18 different institutes/ universities including Ambedkar University, Lucknow; University of Delhi; Manipur University; MKB University, Bhavanagar; St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, Bangalore; University of Mauritius, L.R.T. College of Commerce, Akala; NIFTEM, NCR; BIMTECH, Greater Noida; Bhosle College, Ratnagiri apart from University of Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, etc. This two-week long event consists of training on basic econometric tools, confirmatory analysis, time series data analysis, panel data measurement, market efficiency, structural equation modeling and other qualitative tools of business analytics. Earlier during the inaugural function, Head, School of Business, Dr. Saurabh welcomed the participants and wished them better learning. The Programme Coordinator, Dr. Supran Kr. Sharma, talked about the different session, including the hands-on training session to be conducted during this two-week long programme. The key objective of the workshop was to provide an exposure to the faculty members/research scholars/students in the field of Modeling & Simulation in Ultra Low Power VLSI Design to enhance their knowledge in the domain. The aim of the workshop was to provide the hands-on practice on available EDA tools with the School. The resource persons for the workshop were from the reputed institutes like IIT Delhi, IIT (BHU), NIT Hamirpur, and from the industry for providing and arranging the hands-on practice for the participants. SMVDU Katra, May 2019. The Satellite Session of the 2nd International Multi-Topic Conference on Engineering & Science (IMCES'2019), Mauritius, was held at the Conference Hall, SoECE, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), 5th May 2019. The Satellite Session of the Conference was organized & coordinated by Dr. Amit Kant Pandit, Senior Faculty, SoECE, SMVDU, and session was chaired by the faculty members of SMVDU, including Dr. Pandit; Dr. K R Jha; and Mr. Anil Bhardwaj. Other sessions were chaired via 'Skype' by Prof. Jason Levy, University of Hawaii, USA; Prof. D. M. Akbar Hussain, Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University, Denmark; Prof. Ponnadurai Ramasami, University of Mauritius and Prof. Preeta Sharma, Oxford College of Engineering. The Session started with a keynote from Dr. Amit Kant Pandit, on the topic “IT as Integration Tool for Sustainable Supply Chain”. On he whole, 10 papers were presented via 'Skype' from Malaysia, China and India. Dr. Pandit, speaking on the occasion, said that such engagements help collaborate research work with people across the globe with minimum financial and administrative resources. Dr K R Jha suggested that such events are to be organised more in future. Mr. Bhardwaj presented vote of thanks. The coordinator thanked Prof. D. Mukhopadhyay, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, for his kind support and expressed the thanks to various university sections involved for successfully holding this conference, including Dr. Vashishtha, Faculty, School of Business, Registrar, SMVDU Administration, the DQA Team and the Media Cell .

A Ten-Day FDP-cum-Textual Workshop on Advaita Vedanta organized by the School of Philosophy and Culture (SOPC) in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi was inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). The inaugural session started with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) D. Mukhopadhyay, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor SMVDU, Guest of Honor Prof. V.K. Bhat, Registrar, SMVDU, Resource Persons Prof. V.N. Jha and Prof. Ujjawala Jha, Mr. Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Deputy Secretary, IGNCA, New Delhi and Dr. Anil Kumar Tewari, Head, SOPC. After the floral welcome and felicitation of the dignitaries, Dr. Tewari delivered the welcome address. Prof. V.N. Jha, a renowned scholar and resource person of the workshop, addressed the audience Prof. Jha emphasized the need for acquainting the younger generation with the Indian intellectual heritage. He stated that the whole Indian thinking aims at transforming human consciousness. Prof. V.K. Bhat, in his address, urged the participants to learn as much as possible by interacting with the resource persons. Mr. Bharat Bhushan Sharma and Dr. Abhijit Dixit informed the audience about the activities of IGNCA, New Delhi. In the last, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mukhopadhyay delivered his speech in which he described Advaita Vedanta as the nucleus of Indian thinking.

In this Ten-Day Textual workshop, many faculties and research scholars across the country are participating which will cover the Vedantasangrah written by Bellamkonda Ramraya. The textual workshop is generously funded by IGNCA, New Delhi.
