SMVDU Katra, May 2019. The School of Philosophy & Culture (SoPC) of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) organized a Ten-Day FDP-cum-Textual Workshop on Śāṁkara Vedānta (Level-1) from 20th – 30th May 2019. The workshop was funded by Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi. The valedictory session was chaired by the Chief Patron Prof. D. Mukhopadhyay, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SMVDU. The chief guest of the event was Prof. Shiv Nirmohi and Prof. E. Muthusamy, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and officiating Registrar was the guest of honor. The dais was shared by the renowned scholars Prof. V.N. Jha and Prof. Ujjwala Jha, the resource persons of the workshop and Dr. Anil K. Tewari, Head, SoPC. The session began with the floral welcome and felicitation of the guests and was followed by a report on the workshop by Dr. Tewari. In his report, Dr. Tewari highlighted the fact that there were 30 participants from ten different states of India. Prof. Nirmohi in his address spoke about the confluence of culture and philosophy of the people who migrated from various parts of India to different parts of the country. Prof. Jha emphasized the need to develop short-term programs for the first year engineering students to expose them to the vast treasure of traditional Indian wisdom. Most importantly, they should be able to see that various schools of Indian philosophy are different models of understanding human consciousness, which is the most neglected dimension of the technology-centric civilization. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D. Mukhopadhyay, alerted that the ignorance of any sort is harmful for the holistic growth of personality. Therefore the intellectual traditions of India must be part of the curriculum of professional education. The valedictory session ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor, SoPC after the certification distribution and felicitation of the participants.
