SMVDU Katra, December 2019. The 4th National Conference on Recent Trends in Mathematical Sciences (NCRTMS) concluded today. Padam Shri Prof. (Dr.) R. K. Sinha, Hon'ble Vice-chancellor and Prof. V. K. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) congratulated the organizing team for the successful organization of the conference. Prof. C.K. Mishra, Secretary, IAPS, thanked SMVDU for the Association with IAPS, and expressed the willingness for future collaborations to organize international conferences with interdisciplinary theme. The two days conference resulted in fruitful discussions of participants with the eminent Mathematicians. The invited speakers enlightened the audience with the abstract and applicable aspect of the Mathematical Sciences. In two days, many professors and academicians delivered invited talks, including Prof. S. Ponnusamy (IIT Madras), Prof. K. S. Charak (University of Jammu), Prof. Manish Kumar (SKUAST, Jammu), Prof. Anil Kumar Vashisth (Kurukshetra University), Prof. Madhu Jain (IIT Roorkee), Prof. C.K. Mishra (Dr. RML Awadh University), Prof. Rakesh Kumar (Punjabi University), Prof. Tilak Raj Sharma (Himachal Pradesh University), Dr. Varun Jain (MM Modi College), Dr. Rakesh Kumar (SMVDU), Dr. Kuldip Raj (SMVDU) delivered their invited talks in the conference. Prof V. K. Bhat, Dr. A.K. Das , Dr. Sandeep Bhougal, Dr. Kamini Pathania, Dr. Ram Prakash, Dr. Vivek Kumar Singh of SMVDU and Prof. Rakesh Kumar (Central University of Himachal Pradesh) were also present in the conference and they acted as session chairs. Dr. Kamini Pathania conducted the proceedings during the inauguration of the conference. Apart from invited lectures, faculty and research students from Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir presented their research works, and expected future collaborations. Dr. Uday Pratap Singh (Convener, NCRTMS), Dr. Surender Singh (Coordinator, NCRTMS) and Dr. Sandeep Sharma (Organizing-Secretary, NCRTMS) thanked all the members of the organizing committee, and administration and Media Cell, SMVDU for extending their support to make this conference a success.

SMVDU Katra, December 2019. The 4th ‘National Conference on Recent Trends in Mathematical Sciences (NCRTMS 2019) inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra on 13th December 2019. The School of Mathematics has organized this two day national conference in association with the International Academy of Physical Sciences (IAPS). During the inaugural session, Dr. Uday Pratap Singh, Head, School of Mathematics and Convener of the conference delivered the welcome address, and briefed about the School of Mathematics. Dr. Surender Singh, the coordinator of the conference, briefed that the aim of this conference is to explore various fields of the Mathematical Sciences in the light of cross-disciplinary research. Prof. V. K. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Sciences & the Registrar SMVD University, highlighted the importance of the Mathematics in interdisciplinary research. Prof. Chayan Kumar Mishra, Secretary IAPS and Head, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, U.P. highlighted the activities of IAPS. He mentioned that in the year 2019 IAPS is celebrating its Silver Jubilee and organizing the conferences in all the States of India in association with various Universities. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function, Padamshri Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice Chancellor, SMVD University mentioned the contribution of the great ancient Mathematicians like Aryabhatta and Bhaskaracharya. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Organizing Secretary of the conference. The two day conference received the research papers from the faculty and research Scholars from various parts of the country. Also, some eminent speakers from reputed State Universities, Central Universities and IITs have been invited to deliberate on various aspects of Mathematical Sciences.

SMVDU Katra, December 2019. Lt (Dr.) Kamaldeep Kaur, alumni of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, presently working as Assistant Professor, GDC, Udhampur, attended the NCC Refresher Course 58, at Officers Training Academy, Gwalior (M.P) from 3 Nov to 4 Dec 2019. After the successful completion of this course, she has been conferred with the promotion rank from Lieutenant to Captain. Dr. Kaur was adjudged as the Gold medalist of the course as she was placed first in order of merit for the overall performance in the course. She was also awarded a certificate of merit for excellence in Camp Planning, which was also a part of the course. The training included the majors and minutes of NCC, where the ANO's were evaluated on the grounds from drill, map reading, lecture presentations, academics, yoga and obstacle training. A total of 92 ANO's (Associate NCC Officers) from all over the country were a part of this course. Previously, the candidate did her post-graduation and PhD from the School of Languages & Literature (SoLL), SMVDU. Dr. Amitabh V. Dwivedi, Head, SoLL & Supervisor of the alumni, congratulated her on this achievement, and wished that she would bring more such laurels to the university.

SMVDU Katra, December 2019. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra started off its Campus Placement Programme-2020 in September 2019 for the students of batch passing out in May 2020. Infosys was the first company to visit SMVDU on 17th September 2019 and selected (37) students, followed by Wipro (20), ICICI Bank (15), TCS (24), ICICI Prudential (20), Ceasefire Industries (04), Ezmata Technologies (09), Orange (13), Ericsson (15), Indian Navy etc. Thus, students of SMVDU bagged 170 placements offers with highest CTC of 7 Lac/Annum and average CTC of 3.75 Lac/Annum. Among 12 recruiting companies 09 are the regular recruiters and three companies, namely Ezmata Technologies, Pune, Berger Paints Kolkata and Ericsson Global Guru Gram are the new ones to visit SMVDU first time for campus hiring. The SMVDU also conducted 03 pool drives considering the students of other institutions of the region for campus placement. Despite the economic slowdown being talked about much, Campus Placement in SMVDU Katra has actually ascended in the current session. Padma Shri, Professor R.K. Sinha Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, has a mid-session campus placement-2020 review to personally monitor the status of employment opportunities being made available to the students of SMVDU. Significantly, education of global standards, Quality research and ample employment opportunities for student are the top priorities in the agenda of Professor Sinha. Professor Sinha also mentioned that the figures mentioned here are till November 2019 and more recruiters are expected to visit SMVDU for Campus-2020 hiring .

SMVDU Katra, December 2019. Ms. Shivi Badyal, student, M.Sc. Biotechnology (Semester III) from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra (J&K), brought laurels to the university by being adjudged as the best student for First Prize in "Voice for BT"- a National level Intercollegiate Public Speaking Contest on Biotechnology organized by Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE) and supported by Novozymes South Asia held on 6th December, 2019 at VIT University, Vellore, Tamil Nadu. The event is conducted in all the four regions in India and the first two winners from each region were selected to compete in the final event. The jury comprised of eminent scientists, academicians, industry leaders to select the winners. Earlier, she was selected as the topper of the North-zone contest organized at Amity University, Noida, in October, 2019 and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/- and an Internship Program at the Research and Technology (R&T) facility of the Indian branch of the Global Biotechnology Company - Novozymes at Bangalore for a tenure of six months leading to a potential full time career. A total of eight national finalists, the respective toppers from each zone of different universities all over the country participated in the event and were evaluated by a team comprising of six members from Novozymes and ABLE. Padma Shri Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, congratulated and praised Ms. Shivi for her efforts and was of the opinion that by encouraging such student activities, they are motivated to excel in their academic and co-curricular activities and are an inspiration to other students of the university and the region for participation in such national level events. The participation of Ms. Shivi in the event was supported technically and administratively by Prof. VK. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Sciences; Dr. Yugal Khajuria, Dean, Student Welfare; Dr Sharada M Potukuchi, HoD, School of Biotechnology; Mr. Vinod Sharma, Administrative Officer; Mr. Romesh Singh, KAS, Finance Officer and Mr. BK Bhatia, Training & Placement Officer, SMVDU who praised the student for her persistent participation and excellent oratory skills.

Mr. Shubham Mahajan, PhD Research Scholar, School of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), attended the IEEE RAS HACKATHON in Dhaka- Bangladesh The event was funded by the IEEE Student travel grant where the student and his team Insurgent, comprising two students of Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology, Bangladesh, proposed the model of Next Generation Drones & Radio based Disaster Management on topic “Real Life Implementation of Robotics and Automation in Disaster Management”, which was awarded as 2nd Runner up. Previously, the candidate successfully attended the IEEE Signal Processing Winter School on MSP, IEEE RAS HACKATHON, and International Conference on Signal Processing, Information, Communication and Systems (SPICSCON 2019) from 28th November– 1st December 2019 at Dhaka- Bangladesh.

Dr. Amit Kant Pandit, the supervisor & Coordinator, SMVDU IEEE Student Chapter, congratulated the candidate. Dr. Kumud Ranjan Jha, HOD SoECE, and Registrar, SMVDU Prof. V K Bhatt wished that more students will bring laurels to the university.
