The week long faculty development program is being attended by faculty members, researchers and practicing Engineers across the country working in the area of Sustainability and Tribology. The lecture was conducted through online mode.

During the talk, Dr. Anand highlighted the role of Sustainability in Tribology and its importance in Product Design. The participants also interacted with Dr. Anand and expressed their interest for collaborative research in the area of Sustainability and Product Design. The lecture ended with encouraging feedback and thanks from program coordinator for the AICTE - ATAL sponsored Faculty Development Program

Dr. Singh believes in continuous learning and also advises students to build skills in the most emerging fields such as automation, electric vehicles, augmented realities, virtual realties, robotic, 3D printing, industry 4.0, IoT, analytics, cloud computing, green energy etc.

Further, he said that students can equip themselves through internship, projects, massive open online courses(MOOCs) launched by world class universities/Institutions available at learning platforms such as NPTEL/SWAYAM, edx, Coursera etc. This will help students in exploring the latest avenues for higher education and placement opportunities.

Ankush Raina, Assistant Professor, School of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), has been declared qualified for the award of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the Mechanical Engineering. Er. Raina has carried out his research work in the field of Nano Lubrication under the supervision of Dr. Ankush Anand, Associate Professor, School of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU, on the topic “Tribological Investigation of Lubricating oils with Nano Additives”. Er. Raina has published several quality papers in SCI/SCIE indexed Journals, and has also attended many national and international conferences.

31122020 sms newsDr. Sanjay Mohan, Faculty, School of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, delivered an expert lecture on the topic “Tribology and Manufacturing” to the faculty and scholars of Mechanical Engineering, University of Malaysia Sabah (UMS) - Sabah, Malaysia. The lecture was conducted through online mode where Dr. Mohan highlighted the role of Tribology and its importance in manufacturing. Also, the scope of research in manufacturing with respect to the tribological aspects was stressed upon.

The research scholars and faculty members of UMS, Malaysia also interacted with Dr. Mohan, and expressed their interest for collaborative research.

The talk ended with a thank you note by Prof. M. Kamal, Head, Advanced Composites and Material Research Group, UMS, Malaysia.

Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Faculty, School of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), delivered an invited talk in 4th international and 19th national conference on Machines and Mechanisms (inacomm-2019), organized by School of Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, India, during 5th-7th December, 2019. This conference was sponsored by the Department of Sciences and Technology, Government of India, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, Indian space Research Organization (ISRO), BHEL and Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The conference witnessed a huge participation from all over the world, and a total of 150 research papers were presented. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. S. Bhattacharya, Fayetteville state University, USA, Prof. Guirong Liu, Director, University of Cincinnati, USA, Prof. A. Md. Mahbub, Shenzhen, Graduate School of Harbin Institute of Technology, China. Other invited speakers were Prof. S.K. Saha, IIT Delhi, Prof. C. Amarnath, IIT Bombay, Prof. B.K.Mishra, IIT Roorkee, Prof. G.K. Ananthasuresh, IISC, Bangalore, Dr, S. Guruprasad, Director, DRDO and Dr. Lalit singh, Scientist, NPCIL, DAE, Govt. of India. A number of deliberations were made on the applications of dynamics of Machines, Man-machine Systems, Manufacturing, Condition Monitoring, Rotor Dynamics and Energy and Environment. Dr. Sharma discussed the lubrication characteristics of hydrodynamic bearing with partial and fully textured surface. Dr. Sharma expressed his deep sense of gratitude towards the organizers of the conference for inviting him in the conference. He has also thanked the Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU &Head of School of Mechanical Engineering for thier support and encouragement.

Paarth Gupta, B Tech student, School of Mechanical Engineering at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, presented a paper titled 'Solar EV chargers and super flow batteries for an efficient electric vehicle' at the American Solar Energy Society, 49th Annual Solar Conference, held on 24-25 June 2020. Earlier the conference was scheduled to be held in George Washington University, Washington DC, but due to the COVID-19, it was organized virtually. The paper was selected for poster presentation among the top 20 posters over the world. The paper discusses the use of solar EV chargers and super flow batteries for EV to be a fast and pure green mode of transportation. The candidate suggested ways to increase the efficiency of solar EV chargers which would lead to a sustainable energy future. The paper highlights the use of super flow batteries that makes electric vehicles the fast mode of transportation and increasing the economic effects of electric vehicles.

Amit Kumar sinha, Assistant Professor, School of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), has been declared qualified for the award of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the Mechanical Engineering. Er. Sinha has carried out his research work in the field of sustainable new product development under the supervision of Dr. Ankush Anand, Associate Professor, School of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU, on the topic “Supply Chain Configuration for the Sustainable New Product Development: A Multi-Objective Model and Its Solution Approach”. Er. Sinha has published five SCI/SCIE indexed journal papers based on his Ph.D. thesis.

23082019 picJammu, August 19: Dr. Sanjay Mohan, Faculty in School of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra had presented a paper in 6th International Conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering at Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia held from 14-16th August, 2019. The theme of the Conference was focussed around “Innovations and Latest Research findings in Mechanical Engineering” and participants from all over World attended the Conference. The conference was organised by Universtiy Technology Mara, Society of Mechanical enginers Liveliness and Robotic Institue of Malaysia. The paper presented by Dr. Sanjay threw light on the influence of solid lubricant on the Mechanical and Tribological behaviour of Iron based composites. The Conference experts appreciated the work carried out by the team, and Dr. Sanjay Mohan was confered the Best Presenter award. Amongst 200 participants from all over world, the paper presented by Dr. Sanjay Mohan was also confered the Best paper award. Dr. Sanjay Mohan expressed his thanks to the co-author of the paper namely Dr. Ankush Anand from SMVDU. Dr. Sanjay has also expressed his gratitude to Dr. R.K.Sinha, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU for allowing him to attend the Conference and present his research work.

Prof. Eswaramoorthy during the keynote address, enlightened the importance of smart materials on energy and sensor applications in terms of energy autonomy using direct energy harvesting technologies. He explained the basics, advances of various solar photovoltaic and thermoelectric hybrid systems along and further research possibilities to enhance the performance and decrease cost of the system to ensure the reliability of usage were highlighted.

His talk covered and discussed various topics on microscale of solar photovoltaic thermoelectric hybrid system with further research on the same domain and appreciated by participants during the question and answer session. Mir Irfan Ul Haq, Assistant Professor, School of Mechanical Engineering delivered a talk at Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers(STLE) Annual Meeting-2019 at Nashville, Tennessee, USA held during 19th May,2019 to 23rd May,2019. Er. Mir was awarded travel grant by DST-SERB under Young Scientist category to deliver the talk on a co-authored work entitled “Effect of MoS2 on the Tribological Performance of AA7075/Si3N4 Composite”. The work was co-authored by Dr. Ankush Anand, Assoc. Professor, SME, SMVDU. The conference was organized by STLE and co-sponsored by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The week-long event was attended by various scientists and industry experts working in the field of tribology. Er. Mir Irfan got an opportunity to interact with various tribologists, material scientists and industrial experts from various countries during the event. Er. Mir Irfan thanked university authorities and expressed his gratitude to Dr. Sanjay Mohan (AP, SME), Er. Ankush Raina (AP, SME) and Rajiv Kumar (AP, SME) for their valuable inputs in the work.

30042019 TedXSMVDU Katra, April 2019. Tarun Mahajan, Student of School of Mechanical Engineering at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, attended TEDx India Organizers Workshop 2019 recently. The two-day workshop was hosted by the TEDx India Ambassador, Mr. Ajit Sharma, in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The workshop was exclusively for Indian Licensees and Organizers designed to provide learning & collaboration opportunities to all the active TEDx Organizers of India and to discuss best practices & ideas for the TEDx India community. Mr. Mahajan being the organizer of TEDxSMVDU 2018 event represented in the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was only person to represent Jammu & Kashmir state. The workshop was attended by some of the oldest and newest TEDx Organizers of India, from more than 22 Indian cities joined for one of the largest TEDx Organizers Workshop. Tarun said that it was an all-round learning experience for him as people from almost 22+ cities ranging from school students, teachers & Principals, college students, college Professors, to Entrepreneurs from diverse fields who were made to spend maximum time together. Unlike sitting and attending lectures there were interactive session where the participants discussed and shared their experiences. Tarun Mahajan expressed his gratitude to his mentors, and thanked SMVDU for providing him with such an opportunity.
