06022018 ProfBalbirSMVDU Katra: Dr. Balbir Singh, Associate Professor, School of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University successfully completed five-day’s workshop on “ZED Master-Trainer Training Program’ organized by Allied Boston, training partner of Quality Council of India at Gurugram. Dr. Singh has been listed as ZED Master Trainer by QCI. ZED Certification Scheme is Zero Defect and Zero Effect which is launched by Government of India to promote 22,222 Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in first phase, to become globally competitive through financial support for assessment, ZED rating and certification. Dr. Singh has planned to work in consultation with MSME-DI of region to raise Industry awareness and training program on ZED Certification scheme, hence to improve the quality standards of industries. Further, to develop Industry-Institute partnership in region, 2nd Industry Academia Conclave (IAC-2018) is planned for March 2018 wherein common strategies can be explored for mutual benefits of Industries and Technical Institutions of region.

SMVDU Katra: Mr. Vivudh Gupta, Research Scholar, School of Mechanical Engineering presented a paper titled ‘Study of Latest Trends in Hybrid Electric Discharge Machining Process - A Review’ in 4th International Conference on Industrial Engineering (ICIE-2017) organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, in association with Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai, held from Dec. 21 - 23, 2017. Dr. Balbir Singh, Head of the School of Mechanical Engineering and other faculty members congratulated Mr. Vivudh Gupta.

Kakryal: One day industrial visit is organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU for imparting technical exposure to students of 1st and 2nd year, M. Tech (Manufacturing and Automation) under supervision of team of faculty members headed by Dr. Balbir Singh, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU. In Dabur group, Bari Brahmana Jammu, students experienced the automation of plant and the live functioning of various stages in the processing of products such as Hajmola, Odomos, FEM skin cream, Odonil, Gulabari etc. Pure mechanical working in fabrication of wire mesh, crate wire are observed by students to get practical exposure of wire drawing, bending, wire knitting etc. in Shuvam industries, Industrial Estate, Digiana, Jammu.

a23102017 DrBalbirSinghaSMVDU Katra: Dr. Balbir Singh, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, completed his Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi. Dr. Singh is also qualified as an internal auditor for the IS/ISO 9001:2015, IS/ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 18001:2007 Standards. Six Sigma is a quality improvement approach used to bring down defects level to 3.4 parts per million opportunities. Dr. Singh is planning to work for the improvement of quality level in local industries through MSME cluster and Industry-Academia association (IAC). First IAC-2017 was held in SMVDU in March 2017 and now planning for 2nd IAC in December 2017 wherein industrialists and academicians can jointly explore areas to work on issues faced by industries. The objective of this association is to work jointly in getting national and international recognition such as ZED (zero defects and zero effect), Six Sigma etc. by state industries. To further support industries, labs in the Engineering Department of SMVDU are fully equipped with production based machines and testing facilities which can be accessed by industries.

12042017 aumnimechSMVDU Katra: Arpit Kaushik, an alumnus of Department of Mechanical Engineering, SMVDU (B.Tech. 2011-2015 batch) conducted one to one session with students of Mechanical Engineering on 11th April. Arpit Kaushil appeared in 15 exams and finally achieved success and grabbed 3 appointments as Probationary Officer in PNB and Rajasthan Marudhara Gramin Bank along with passing in SSC CGL exam. He motivated students to focus on your goal but always have back up plan also. Dr. Balbir Singh, Head Deptt. of Mechanical Engineering with 33 yrs. of working experience gave three rules to achieve goal at any desired position: Optimism, Sincere efforts and Faith in God. The talk ended with questionnaire session on preparation strategies and job avenues for mechanical engineers in today’s competitive world.
